It's the "Welcome to Summer vacation" edition of my blog!

Today, I had to drive up to DePere because I had accidentally forgotten a key in my pants pocket the day before my vacation was to begin. So, I got up at the usual time this morning and headed up to De Pere. I saw two deer near the road this morning. That's kindof unusual. You'd think I'd see a lot more deer but I don't.
I decided to drive over to Fox Hills Resort to play golf on their "National" course. They have 45 holes of golf at Fox Hills and I was led to believe that their National course was something special. Oh, it was alright. It was especially vacant when I got there. Maybe only two or three cars in the parking lot. Their fee was also special. It cost me $21 to play 18 holes. That's as cheap as Hickory Hills near Chilton or Badger Creek near New Holstein. Both of those courses are lacking in the kinds of polish that you see at more expensive courses. The National lacked polish too. No bent grass fairways here. The fairways were a bit on the shaggy side. Nearly all holes had either sand traps or berms (not mowed at all) on either or both sides of the fairway.
I found that I am pretty good at hitting a golf ball to the left or to the right or my target but hardly ever straight at it. My first three shots on the last hole were about the only on target shots I hit all day. I shot 50-45=95 which is in keeping with the fact that it was my first time at the course and that I can't hit the ball in a predictable direction.
It would appear that the National course is far from the kind of upper-crust golf course you'd expect at a golf resort. I played by myself the entire 18 holes and never saw anybody ahead of me or behind me except for the first two holes when I followed another single golfer. The greens were in good shape but not the lightening fast greens you'd see at The Bull or Blackwolf Run. The sand traps were nearly all full of water. There are an exceptional number of traps and lots of water on the course but it's basically flat. It was built out of some perfectly good farmland it seems to me. I had to walk because the course was too wet for carts (I only ride when I'm playing a course for the first time or when it's extremely hot). By the 18th hole, I was ready to quit. I'm definitely not in shape yet to play 18 holes without being a little "wasted" afterward.
I stopped at Town and Country golf course on the way home and paid my fee for my WSGA handicap. I also tried out a few center-shaft putters. I found that I can spray the ball on either side of the hole just as well with a center-shafted putter as with one whose shaft is on the outside of the head. I did not buy a new putter today :-)

Work has been gruelling for the past several weeks. I personally installed and imaged over 150 new PC's for our labs. When I lifted our birdbath the other day it seemed lighter than usual. This is no doubt because of my increased upper body strength from lifting all those computers on a daily basis for two weeks. I am definitely ready for summer and it's slower pace of life with less emphasis on work to be here.

Well, it's up to St. Paul on Sunday to be with Edi for her start at a new life. I'm excited at the prospect of all the good that can come out of this surgery for her. Yes, there is some risk, but the benefits, I think, are well worth it.

I feel a nappy poo coming on. That's it for now.

Ciao, babies!!
